Yesterday we drove up MI and spent the day at the beach. John and I have done this I believe 4 times, so almost every year so far. Last year, John mentioned to his co-worker we were going and she told him she actually had a beach house and we should come and spend the day there with her. So we did. It was a nice situation. We went down to the beach with Anne, then brought her back to the house put her down for a nap and John's friend, Rasa, stayed with her while John and I had some time together. Last year was sort of a bust because Anne didn't really like it at all. She had zero interest in the sand and even less interest in the water. I think we might have been down at the beach for 20 minutes. In addition, it was a bit of a challenge to keep her entertained at someone else's house with not a lot of toys.
This year, however, was much better. We were down at the beach for 2 and a half hours with Anne! That's a very very long time for my home-bodied baby. She really liked it. She liked the sand more I think than the water but the second half of her time, she did request that John take her in the water more. John was great with her. He played with her the entire time. I played in the water and read. (The waves were HUGE! Actually rivaled ocean waves on a calm day.) Then we took her back to the house and let her watch a movie and John and I went to play. We were in the water for an hour and had more fun than normal.
All in all it was a great day. I fully expected Anne to conk out during the movie since she had played so hard, but nope. Then I fully expected her to conk out on the ride home but she held out until 20 minutes before we got home (and it's an hour and 45 minute drive). That's my girl. It's wierd to think if we go next year we'll have 2 kids and one will be only 6 months old. How our life is going to change in a few months...

Here's a picture so you can see how big the waves are.

Between playing and lunch Anne literally laid in the sand doing a lot of nothing for about 20 minutes! Oh yeah, she did sample the sand, which is why you can see sand on her mouth in other pictures.

Anne and Daddy playing in the water.

Daddy burried Anne up to her thighs. She wasn't too keen on this and literally a few seconds after the picture being taken she was out.
Can you see the sand on her mouth?

Glad to hear everyone enjoyed the trip! And that's good you and John got some quality time without baby. Sometimes it's nice not to talk about diapers, feeding, spit-up, etc. or dealing with any of it!
