A few months ago John started to bug me to get our organic produce boxes again. These are boxes we have ordered from a company about 1.5 years ago. They deliver a box of fruits and veggies (and lots and lots of other combinations) on your time schedule (ie, once a week up to every few months). We stopped getting it mainly because I was getting stressed out because I couldn't think of enough recipes to make to use up all the produce. Right around the time John asked me to start getting it again, I read a few posts on random blogs about eating local and in season and cookbooks that help you do this. (Eating organic and local also fits into my green obsession.) So, for my birthday John got me 2 of these cookbooks and we started up our organic produce again. We've gotten 3 or 4 boxes so far and it's been really great.
But the reason I'm blogging is because the one cookbook I got, Simply in Season, is a big winner. All the recipes I'm using the week come from it. Today I made a really really yummy apple cake that has 5 cups of apples (almost an entire serving of fruit per slice!). Cooking right now is a zuchinni "pie" (sort of like a quiche). I think it's going to turn out really well. So, we have a winner in a cookbook!
