God's work

God has been doing some really amazing things in my life lately. It's sort of hard to put it into words, but since Jan 3rd, I have faithfully been able to do a "quiet time" (ie, reading the Bible and praying) every single day. This has really started to change me spiritually, especially since I haven't done a consistent quiet time for probably close to 5 years. In addition, I've been reading "Knowing God" by J. I. Packer for our Sunday school class. This book. although Packer's theology is so different than anything I ever thought I would agree with, is changing my attitudes about different spiritual matters, challenging my thinking and above all, causing me to walk with my Lord in a deeper way.

This week's chapter was on God's wisdom vs. our wisdom. It mainly talked about how people often ask God for "wisdom" and expect to be shown why certain things happen. Instead, God's wisdom is often just the strength to walk through a situation, seeing what we need to do step by step. There was an incredibly powerful quote from this chapter that I really wanted to share:

"We can be sure that the God who made this marvelously complete world order, and who compassed the great redemption from Egypt, and who later compassed the even greater redemption from sin and Satan, knows what He is doing, and 'doeth all things well,' even if for the moment He hides His hand. We can trust Him and rejoice in Him, even when we cannot discern his path."

I feel so inadequte right now to explain what has been going on in my soul these past 6 weeks. However, this quote is just amazing. But isn't is so much easier said than done, when things are in horrible chaos and our world is upside down to say that we trust Him than to actually do it?
