Not Yet

We went to the shelter today. It was a little weird meeting the dog that I had been looking at for over a week now. She didn't look quite like what I thought she would. She was very very skinny. You could see her ribs. And her end half (for lack of a better word) was very skinny and small. She had very narrow hips. The person who worked there said that the hips were probably from another breed. She was definately a Lab, but was also something else. We weren't sure. She was very sweet and friendly. She was also very playful but not as excited as I thought she would be. Both John and I liked playing with her. She even gave Anne a wet lick on her face (before we could pull Anne away and rescue her.) Anne wasn't really into the kiss though. In the end, we left the shelter the Atwoods, Family of 3 still. The thing that got me and hung me up was thinking about bringing the dog into the house. I could just picture her running all over the place, knocking things over and chewing up stuff. In my head it was total chaos. I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with that. I definately waivered back and forth, not sure what choice was best for my family. In those times, I'm so glad John is the "leader" in the family. I was able to defer to him, let him make the decision and he said this dog probably wasn't right for us I know he made the right choice; I would have come to that conclusion too, it just would have taken me a lot longer. So, I think we will keep looking, but I have no idea when we are ready. John said that when we find the perfect dog, we'll bring him or her home. I think I like what the man at the shelter said: "We don't find our dogs, our dogs find us."
Whistle, whistle---"here girl!"

Maybe an older dog will be better for you guys. Dupree is about 2 1/2 and he's still pretty puppyish (although he's gotten A LOT better in the last few months). He only chews on Aaron's clothes (ha ha, he should just pick them up off the floor!). He's much calmer now. He kind of just hangs out when we do, but will go out and play when it's time (the slides at the park are his favorite). He sits and shakes, takes treats that I hold in my teeth (gross I know), will wait to eat any food or treats that you put on the floor until you tell him it's ok. He still barks when we leave, but at least he misses us!-Amber

Don't forget, I still have your red dog harness. Perfect for a yellow lab. Labs have two ages; puppy stage and old dog. Very little time in between.
Love you bunches,

Just one more thing: fish make great pets. African cichlids the best yet; colorful, personality, healthy and very little cleanup (so unlike a dog). And best yet, they never bite!!!
