First Food!

Today was the day! We gave Anne sweet potatoes, her first food ever, for the first time today. It turned out so much better than I expected in everyway. I made her sweet potoates, cooking it whole in the microwave, scooping the flesh out and mixing it in the blender with some boiled and cooled water. The food was just as smooth and easy to eat as what you buy in the store. That was my first fear, because I have heard that it is really hard to get homemade baby food to be w/o lumps. Mine turned out perfect.
Then came giving Anne the food. She did great! She opened her mouth on the first bite like she had been doing this her whole life. And within a few bites, she was clearly requesting more food. She would do this in a variety of ways, grabbing my hand tightly and pulling it towards herself, grabbing the spoon and doing the same thing, and once she even screeched in protest when I took the spoon out of her mouth and quieted down immediately when the spoon went back in, replenished with food. She didn't even make the mess I thought she would. Yes she got it on her face and bib, but it wasn't nearly everywhere like I thought it would be.
I am so excited now to try other foods. Bananas, avacados, maybe even apple sauce...
My little baby has taken the first step into growing up...what is next?? Sitting up, crawling, standing, walking, talking...it's all going so fast...
