I was at Trader Joe's last week and saw their reuseable grocery bags for the going rate of $.99. I didn't really like them though. They didn't seem as sturdy as my ideal bags. So I made a sort of the out of the way trip to Whole Foods. I was very disappointed there. Every person I talked to, 3 of them, were too busy to help me. Even at customer service, I asked if they had the reusable bags. She said she thought so and pointed vaguely to where they might be. I stood there while she finished counting out her drawer and when she was done, she made a move like she was going to go help me look. She didn't, she just helped the next person and I looked like a fool. So I wandered about looking for the bags to finally have someone tell me they were all out. I left pretty upset with the experience. Then while I was at Jewel this weekend I saw they had green reusable grocery bags! They were nice and sturdy and what I was looking for. So I bought some and told the cashier I wanted to use them that day with my groceries. The bag girl obviously didn't hear because (here's where the "gag" part comes in), she put them all in a plastic bag and handed them to me! I told her, no I was going to use them. I think I saved 4 or 5 bags that day by using them! Cool!!
But that still doesn't help when I buy fast food, convenience food, print something I don't need, and throw away tissues that my daughter has ripped up unused. So I guess this week was a big step forward and 4 steps back...
hmmm...
ReplyDeletemaybe you could be extra green by actually creating bags "fashioned" from your old garbage....
all you do is sew together peices of discarded tissues, toilet paper, tampons, diapers, and viola...a usable, "recycled" bag that will make you so green, you cant even IMAGINE....
