Sweet Girl

For those of you have been wondering lately (eh, hem, Brenda, et al.), we do "let" Anne have sweets. However, I don't see a need for sweets on a regular basis, so she hardly ever gets them. It does not make sense to me to offer my 16 month old dessert right now if she doesn't want it or ask for it. Honestly, if she asked for it, I'd give it to her. I'm very into Anne getting to try everything possible, so when we went to our neighborhood fair a few months ago, Anne got some Dippin Dots. When we were at Culvers, Anne got tastes of ice cream, etc. Regularly, Anne eats graham crackers. That is a staple snack in our house. So, yes, she does eat sweets.

Today however, crossed a new level. We were in the car and out and about for a long time today-over three hours. I had to stop at home in the middle of it all and get my wallet. I felt bad for poor Anne in the backseat and wanted to keep her as happy as possible, so she got full strength juice, not watered down, which I think she's had 3 times in her life. She loved it. Then we went to the vet to pick up Winnie (another blog). Anne was very whiny and wanted very much to get down. I couldn't do that so to appease her I gave her a....drum roll please...lollipop! Yes, I have now joined hundreds of millions of moms across the planet who have given their kids candy to quiet them down. A few hours later, I was cooking dinner and I looked over at Anne and what do I see? She has found the package of cookies and is eating one!

So yes everyone, I do have a sweet girl.

Here are some pictures of Anne with the cookies. They're a little blurry...

  1. I totally agree. . . why give them something when they don't even care to ask about it yet?? And of course I take cookies (organic and whole grain but cookies nonetheless) everywhere I go and Elanor pretty-much gets them whenever she asks (to avoid what Heather calls a hypoglycemic moment or meltdown). And starting this past week, Evan now "demands" snacks when we're out and about, especially when he sees someone else eating. *sigh*
