Big news!

In case you haven't heard-we had our baby boy this past friday! This will be a quick post since he's sleeping and giving me a second to write. James "Jamie" Adam Christian Gap Atwood was born on Friday Februrary 27th at 11:34 am. He weighed 8lbs 4oz and was 21 inches long. Labor was blessedly short (blessedly because it was very very painful!) at only 1 hour 15 minutes from first contraction to holding my son. Even though Jamie is exactly 50% bigger than Anne was, birthing him was much much easier. My birth with him was absolutely amazing, and I will treasure the experience in my heart for the rest of my life. I feel so incredly blessed to have such an amazing birth.

Jamie is doing well-he latched on right away, which was another huge blessing which I am supremely grateful for. He is a hearty eater and I have no fears at all that he's getting enough. Today we are going to his doctor's appointment and I'm anxious to see how much he weighs 4 days after birth. Jamie is quite different from Anne, which we knew. He likes to be held constantly and doesn't just protest if you put him down, he cries! We are adjusting to this change in baby and I'm looking forward to the next few weeks as we all figure each other out.

Anne is doing splendidly with him. She comes in every morning and asks where baby is. She often climbs up next to him and just stares at him while petting his face and head. She has said some super sweet things including when she first met him, she said "Hi Jamie. I'm your big sister." Whenever he cries she rushes over and says "It's okay Jamie" and sings him a song. Today when we told her we were going to take him to the doctor she said "The doctor not going to hurt him?" (because of the PKU test he got with the heel stick). Anne is already protective of him and if he's crying because he's in pain (like washing his hair or something.) Anne covers her face and ears (which I really do interpret to mean she doesn't want him to be in pain because other cries she could care less.). She is adjusting to mommy not being with her so much. John has taken over caring for her almost completely and she's struggling with that-feeling grumpy and crabby most days and letting us know. But on Friday John goes back to work and I think we'll all start to adjust to each other.

Thanks so much for everyone's well wishes and your thoughts and prayers. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and we all move forward and start this next stage in our lives.

That is so sweet how Anne introduced herself to Jamie!

When you get time (haha) you'll have to update your blog name and profile to include Jamie!

Congratulations to your whole family! Jamie is gorgeous! I think he looks a bit like Anne, do you? I am so, so happy for you to have your little boy in your arms and to have brought him into the world in such a special way. Hugs!
