Footprints of an unwanted "friend"

Today I went under the sink to grab some paper towels, saw some little brown things about the size of ants, felt my heart start to beat faster and quickly called my hero, John, into the scene. Have you guessed whom our unwanted friend is? Yup...a mouse! Damn living in Plainfield, which isn't populated enough yet with people to scare off rodents! Damn living less than a block from a corn field where mice abound and thrive in the summer! And damn the cold weather which beckons our furry friends indoors-any door they can find. My saving grace is that I was under the sink no more than 2 days ago and did not see mice droppings so I feel confident it is (was) a single stow away that has only been here a day or two. John plugged up the hole and (PETA members stop reading) is going to buy some mouse poison in the coming days. Hopefully-really I hope-those few steps will encourage the little buggers to bunk somewhere else for the winter.

John, aka my hero, cleaning up the mess-and hopefully our "friend"

The little pest made himself a bed and everything!
Chewed paper towels-GROSS!

I'm so surprised that you have a mouse with a cat & dog in your house! I really stand by using old kitty litter as a repellent. Take some old kitty litter-the stuff you would throw away when changing the whole box-NOT the poo/pee clumps-the cat just needs to have walked on the litter- and spread it around the perimeter of your house. We've done this in both houses and have (knock on wood) never seen a mouse. I'm a little surprised we haven't seen a mouse in this house since the bean field is our backyard. I know it may be kind of gross, but no one knows...until you write it as a comment in someone's blog. My house isn't gross. We also put some extra just outside/inside the garage door by the driveway.
Hope that the "little guy" is outta there soon!
