A bind

In case you didn't know, we are not finding out the sex of our baby. In fact, given that we are going to a super duper natural midwife, we might not even get an ultrasound. It all depends on if the baby is growing well and the blood tests have come back that he/she is healthy. Anyway, that's neither here nor there for this blog. Since we aren't finding out the sex, I find myself in a predicament. Clothes. It's a bit deeper too. With Anne, I assumed she'd be a normal sized baby that grew at a normal rate. I also assumed clothes were true to size, so when they said newborn fit 5-8lbs, I assumed it was true. Both of these assumptions were wrong. Anne was tiny and in a month she only gained 11 oz. Before you panic, she was actually on target, just the extremely low end of normal for growth. So at 1 month old she weighed (if memory serves) 6lbs 3oz. The second assumption that newborn clothes actually fit 5-8lbs was also wrong. They fit closer to 7lbs. So Anne swam in her clothes for about 2 months. Preemie clothes, which fit up to 5lbs actually fit closer to up to 7lbs and would have been a much better fit on my kid. So as the second kid rolls around I do have girl clothes for it, but not many preemie clothes. I don't really have boy clothes. As people gave us clothes for Anne there would be a few boy clothes mixed it. If they were super cute I kept them. As a result, I have a very small box of boy clothes ranging from 0-12 months. I also bought a few 0-3 month things and a few newborn things if they were on a good price. The stuff I have for a boy might last a few days. Now I'm in the predicament where my favorite fall resales are here. Warehouses full of used clothes at a really good price. I've gone 2x a year since before Anne was born. Each time, getting her entire wardrobe for the next 2 season (either fall and winter or spring and summer) for under a $100 bucks. The sales start in the next few weeks and I'm wondering if I should stock up on boy clothes. Obviously the predicament is I could spend 50 bucks and we have a girl. So, should I do it, just for peace of mind? The other option is that when the spring sales start my baby will be maybe a month old. Do you think I could drag myself to sale at that point and shop for both my kids? So do I get enough to last me a month before I go shopping again? Hmm...John's leaning towards me buying stuff for a boy (since we do have girl clothes) and spending the money and if we don't need it passing it on. What do you think? I guess it seems like a pretty easy solution to do that. Does anyone else have any other solutions?

Purchase boy clothes!!! You can always resell them on ebay or something. (or keep them for a 3rd child) 8-)

I agree with Brenda that you coud always keep them for the next. You also could donate them to Goodwill for a greater tax write-off than the fifty bucks if you keep an itemized list. Also, April, you're a bit of a worrier. Don't you think $50 for peace of mind is money well spent? :)

Replace "worrier" with anal and obsessive complusive and you're on the right track! I think I will for sure get some clothes just because I am anal and I am OCD and I am overprepared for everything. (I'm already looking for co-sleepers and I have over 6 months left!). Especially if I can find some nuetral preemie stuff, I'm good to go!

I think you're going to regret not getting an ultrasound pic of baby #2.

Neutral clothes are never really neutral, I always think they look like boy clothes, so I would go with that but then I would also be finding out the sex asap!
