Language leaps and bounds

Anne's language is really taking off. She's been putting together words for several months and short sentences as well. Here's what she said this morning.

I walked into her room to find her in her most favorite outfit-naked from the waist down. (This is actually not cute since it includes peeing on her sheets. So, we've been doing a LOT of laundry since every morning for the past week she has been "dressed" like this). I said "Hi baby!" she said, "Diaper off." Yup, diaper off. I laid her down on her changing table to change her and she started talking to her invisible friend the monkey who lives on our ceiling. (This is probably another post in itself, but every time I lay her down to change her, she starts saying "Hi" to a monkey that she can only see on the ceiling when she's being changed. We have clouds painted on the ceiling but none of them look like a monkey. The only other thing I can think of is the previous owners had a type of hook hanging from the ceiling that might resemble a monkey.) Anyway, she said "Hi Monkey! Eating a banana?" Wow. Then she said what blew me away, "Ducky dirty, mommy." I said, "Yeah, he's dirty? Does he need a bath?" She said, "No, he likes it." Haha!!

I'm super impressed with all this because for the longest time Anne's vocabulary has consisted of single words and ideas limited expressly to what she is doing. She hasn't really ventured into talking about what she's thinking. So to have her start to do that is pretty cool.
