Resolutions

I love New Year Resolutions. Despite breaking them within a week, I still love them. I love the feeling of a completely new start every year. That maybe this year, I can change something big in my life. I always seem to forget to make a resolution until the day before new years, but this year I've been thinking about it for a few weeks. There's a lot of things I want to change in my life. My weight is one of them. I know that I've been writing about this a few times, and I have been working out a lot more, but I can't get the eating under control. My weight is up yet again. Another half pound, and it will hit a mark that I would never think I'd see, unless I was pregnant, which I'm not. I want to start eating healthier meals for dinner. Besides hoping that it will help with feeling full and my weight, I want to eat more of the earth. Less meat, more dried beans, legumes, barely, whole wheats, brown rice, and all those other odd uber healthy grains you hear of but have no clue what they look like. I want to cook a meal with these ingredients once a week or so. I want to expand my eating palate more than it is right now.

I also want to improve my relationship with God. How fitting and ironic, as I write this I remember our pastor is coming over on New Years Eve to talk about this very thing with me. Hmm...I want to recapture what I had as a teenager. My excitement, and more than that, my dedication to God. I want to spend time every morning reading His word, praying, meditating...

I would love to go greener this year. One thing I thought would be cool would be to pick a theme every month and focus wholeheartedly on it. So one month would be saving water. And that entire month I could spend time looking up how to save water then put it into practice. Another month might be electronic/energy saving, or household cleaners or going green with food. Going greener is something that interests me on a purely selfish level. Going green probably means spending less money (because let's face it, cleaning with vinegar and water is a heck of a lot cheaper than cleaning with 409). Also, if I force myself to think about it, the other perks are great too...less pollution, less stuff going in our lungs, less waste to the earth. But I am a pretty selfish girl so the immediate gains are what draws me.

I'd also like to focus on my husband more this year. The whole 50's housewife thing...making him cookies and brownies, greeting him at the door, and more than that, just showing my appreciation and love of him more. I struggle a lot with that and I'm not sure why...in the TMI category, it'd be fun to have more sex this year too....

So there are a lot of things running around in my head. I'm not sure which ones will become resolutions or not. I would love to make a resolution and actually stick to it. That would be good. So I guess I'll think on it more and see which ones make the cut.

I also LOVE resolutions! Those sound really great! I like the going green and having a topic of the month. (And hopefully there will be a blog every month about each topic...how's that for selfish??)

One thing that I do that really helps me to stick to my resolutions is that I put them in a picture frame in the bedroom so that I see them on a daily basis and am reminded of what I want to do. Good luck! :) Happy 2008!!

"a half a pound"??? my weight fluctuates like three pounds every day. how do you stay so accurate?

instead of making resolutions (because that is just to vague and huge for me and i need constant direction), i am making myself a long list of things i would like to do before the end of the year. ie, take a yoga class, etc.

Good ideas both of you! I'll keep them in mind. Niki, if i do a green of the month, my plan is to blog about it. :)

Ps. in a half pound it will hit an all time high. Not that it's up half a pound. I'm pretty regular fluctuating about 2 lbs and that's it.
