Anne is learning words like crazy. At first I thought she probably had a delay in language. This is based on one of the developmental screens I do at work, which said she needed to know 2 words by 15 months, me being very anal and not giving her certain words even though she was saying them, and comparing her to my friend's daughter who is OFF THE CHARTS in language. (Ie, speaking practically full sentences at 15 months when most kids can say 2 or 3 words. Yeah, Heather, it's you.) Well, at Anne's 15 month check up, my doctor asked what she could say and I told him and he muttered under his breath, "Well language starts to take off at 18 months so it sounds like she's ahead..." What??!!??
The past few days her language is really starting to build. It's amazing to see her learning new words. Here are some of the cute moments. Yesterday she kept walking to all the doors in the house and pointing while signing "help" and saying "this". I asked if she wanted to go outside, to which she said (and I swear) "Side". (Mind, you this hasn't been repeated). While reading a book the other day I asked her where the monkey was and she correctly pointed to it. Then I asked where the birdie was and she pointed to that too! (Mind, you, this hasn't been repeated.) Seeing a dog far far off on our walk and pointing while saying over and over and over "Doggy" long after the dog was gone. Seeing cars drive by, Anne pointing and saying "Hi" to every one.
She is just amazing. I can't believe how her little mind works. It is so cool to see things start to fit together for her. I can't believe in 2 months she'll be 18 months and most likely really talking up a storm. (And can you believe in 2 months it will be Halloween. What??) Yesterday was definitely a fun day for us just because I got to see all of the learning going on. Keep it up, Baby!
