Do brown cows make chocolate milk?

So on the tails of the tantrum and horrible night for us both, Anne started a (short lived) nursing strike. Now, many of you know I have struggled greatly with milk supply and nursing and would like nothing more than to nurse Anne into toddlerhood. So this nursing strike was particularly devastating to me. Everytime I tried to nurse Anne she would either cry out and push away or she would just start to fuss and turn her head. I tried everything I could think of to get her to nurse. Different positions, different rooms, playing with her beforehand, nursing after a bottle, nothing helped. She refused to nurse. This lasted 36 hours. Tearfully I thought to myself if she kept this up for another day, or even 12 more hours, it would be over. Our nursing relationship would have ended. This saddened me more than I can express.

Then, last night, on the way home from dinner with friends I got an idea. When we arrived home, I set us up in our usual nursing place and positions. I then gave Anne the tiniest taste of chocolate syrup. Like any all American girl, she loved it. I then put some chocolate syrup on my nipple. Low and behold the girl nursed! That was the first time in 36 hours she did so willingly. She took the other side without the chocolate treat. This morning I had to once again give her some syrup, but this afternoon she nursed without any temptations. I am hopeful that this is the end of that horrible nursing strike. Hey, whatever works, right?
